United Kingdom and Digital Radio
In 2009 Australia followed the United Kingdom and tuned into digital radio. As part of my case study I’m looking into digital radio and how it has developed overseas compared to Australia. I have since learned the United Kingdom is fully embracing digital radio.I found this article below from the United Kingdom's Guardian news paper which is explaining the Government's decision to keep promoting digital radio:
“The government today committed itself to digital audio broadcasting (DAB) radio but ducked the question of an analogue radio switch-off, saying there was no reason why analogue and digital radio could not exist together. Today's Digital Britain report said the government was committed to making DAB a "primary distribution network" for radio. It said DAB had become "the medium of consumer choice" in the UK and the "platform of choice for digital radio listening". (Plunkett 2009)
This is great news for Australia and digital radio as the United Kingdom has had an enormous amount of success. The United Kingdom appear to be extremely advance when it comes to digital radio as they had their first test transmission started by the BBC in 1990. Australia’s testing for digital radio only began in 1999.
I am not sure how technologically advanced the United Kingdom are compared to Australia. Do you know if the United Kingdom are more advanced than Australia when it comes to technology? As you can see in regards to digital radio they are definitely many steps ahead.
